PASTOR TROY'S INSPIRATIONS

Unlocking the He-Man within
By Adrian Daniels, Special to Preach2me.com

Anyone 30 years old and over remembers the over-the-top Masters of the Universe cartoon He-Man.  Prince Adam, young and unassuming in his demeanor, lived a double life as the son of a king that did not think much of Adam or his ordinariness (sound familiar?).  Until one day Adam realized his destiny through powers rendered to him by a mystic sword.  The sword transformed Adam into his extremely muscular and salon-tanned alter-ego He-Man.  In a booming voice He-Man would announce his arrival with a simple phrase, “I have the power!”

As a child, I perceived power as having supernatural ability that would somehow make me special and worthy of love and acceptance.  Now as an adult in my 30’s, I’ve come to a realization that should be common knowledge, but I feel like sharing it with you anyway.  True power is a mental mechanism triggered whenever you make a conscious decision to eat, breathe, sing & dance in unequivocal truth!  As a gay man of color living, working and looking for love my powers are challenged on an hourly basis.  What I have observed from the most powerful individuals I know is that they shine at their brightest when they exude truth in their darkest moments.

What are you going to do when you are asked to be someone or something you are not?  How do you battle the pain and insecurity of an unhappy relationship?  What will make you transcend the toxic atmosphere of a hostile workplace?  My friends, it’s as simple as being truthful to yourself and others.

For example, I worked for a very popular radio station in the metro-Atlanta area for several years.  The perception of my friends and outsiders to the broadcasting industry was that I was the luckiest dude on the planet.  I hob-knobbed with celebrities and rappers with access to high profile events and was considered part of the in-crowd.  In private I was dying slowly and painfully.  Starving, facing eviction and completely broke, I watched as others excelled until I sat with a friend and professional listener and poured out the facts that I was scared to face.  It was not until I accepted my reality that I became free and a conduit for 100% raw power.  I left my job in a cloud of mystery, but one thing was clear.  I never felt so invigorated in my life.

Please, do not quit your jobs folks!  It is my wish for you to unlock your inner He-Man.  There are plenty forces in the world that want you destroyed, wrecked and in a shambles simply because you live.  The power of truth makes sleeping at night better than any sleep number.  The power of truth is more potent than any aphrodisiac.  The power of truth is your golden lasso and bullet-proof bracelets.  The power of truth is within us all, but will you have the courage to call upon them?

January's Inspiration

One young man’s priority to prioritize
--Robby Jones, Special to Preach2me.com

As I mature and get older, one thing that has always rung in my head is priorities. It wasn’t always something I had right, but as I learn and navigate through life I see that having the right priorities makes life a little easier to view things and easier to get focused. Having a clear consciousness of what’s important, and what is not, helps you deal with those insignificant things. If you are unemployed, worrying about a bill you can’t pay shouldn’t be top priority. However, trying to find a job and putting in the effort to forward your resume to various companies should be number one.

The priorities in my life are: God, family, friends and then work. God ultimately comes first in my life. Through it all, He’s been the constant and knows me so well. He’s my strength, my joy, my comforter, and the love of my heart. God is my foundation on which everything is built on in my life. The bible says “Seek the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you!” My relationship with God keeps me focused on what’s important.

Next is family. Family is the one that’s closes to you. The influence of your family carries you throughout your life. The bible says, “Teach a child in the way they should go, and when they get older they shall not depart from it.” I’m a strong believer in that. I believe that no matter where you go in life, no matter what you do, you will always come back to your roots, your first beginnings!

After family are friends. In proverbs 19:24a it reads, “But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Friends are those whom you can count on through it all and share your life with, good and bad. Friends in my life are chosen and are selected because they are necessary in my life. I choose people I know will be healthy for me and supportive of me. I rather have supporting people in my life, than people who are going to drain me and bring me down. Choose your friends wisely!

Lastly, work! “A man that does not work does not eat” I love to eat! So making sure that I’m at work on-time everyday is a priority for work! I can’t afford to miss out on the latest electronic toy or the latest fashion. So working guarantees that I have the income essential in my life. Being able to be independent and sustain myself is very important.

Through my experiences I’ve learned how to prioritize and keep focused on what’s really important.
